Apple iPad 2 and Dell Streak 7 are tablet/pad from two strong competitors in the computer industry. And the competition now continues in to tha tablet market also. Dell unveilled its new tablet “Dell Streak 7″ running on Android 2.2 (Froyo) with upgrade capability to Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) in January 2011. Apple introduced its second generation iPad 2 on March 2, 2011. Dell Streak 7 is a 7″ tablet while iPad 2 is larger and slimmer. Dimension ahead, the operating system makes the main difference between these two devices. iPad 2 runs Apple’s proprietary iOS 4.3 and Dell Streak runs Android 3.0 Honeycomb, an operating system specially designed for tablei like larger devices. The disppointment with iPad 2 is the missing support for 4G network while Dell Streak 7 is 4G ready.

iPad 2 has excellent multitasking feature with the support of 1 GHz dual core high performance A5 application processor, 512 MB RAM and improved OS iOS 4.3.

iPad 2 is amazingly slim and lighter than its previous iPad, it’s just 8.8 mm thin and weight 1.3 pounds. The new 1 GHz A5 processor’s clock speed is twice as faster than A4 and 9 times better on graphics while the power consumption remains same.

iPad 2 has added some new features like HDMI capability – connect to HDTV via AV adapter, camera with gyro and a new software PhotoBooth, 720p video camcorder, front facing camera with FaceTime for video conferencing, and two applications -improved iMovie and GarageBand making it as a small musical instrument. iPad 2 will have variants to support both 3G-UMTS/HSPA network and 3G-CDMA network and will also release Wi-Fi only model.

iPad 2 is available in black and white colors and use the same battery as iPad and also priced same like iPad. Apple introduces a new bendable magnatic case for iPad 2, named as Smart Cover. iPad 2 will be available in the US market from March 11th and to others from March 25th.

Dell Streak 7

Dell introduced its new tablet Dell Streak 7 at the CES 2011. The Android 2.2 (Froyo) based tablet comes with handy 7″ multi-touch capacitive vibrant screen with Gorilla glass; the widescreen display optimally designed for mobile Web, video and movies. Dell Streak is smaller and lighter than Apple iPad 2, but Apple iPad 2 is the slimmest tablet (or pad).

Dimensions of Dell Streak 7 is 7.87″(199.9mm) x 4.72″(119.8mm) x 0.49″(12.4mm) and it weighs 450g (15.87 oz).

Dell Streak 7 is packed with 1 GHz NVIDA Tegra Dual Core processor and has 512 MB RAM, internal storage capacity with the option of 16GB or 32GB, rear facing 5.0 megapixel camera and a front facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video chatting. The operating system is upgradeable. The Android tablet supports full multitasking, inbuilt Adobe Flash 10.1, Qik and Skype and many other applications from Android Market. Connectivity supported by 3G/4G, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, and Bluetooth.
