EMO vs Scene
Emo and scene are slang words that are used to describe particular types of kids, especially teenagers. Emo also happens to be a style of music that is expressive and emotional. There is also a category of kids in the age range of 13-20 that are described as emo scene making it all very confusing for adults and seniors to differentiate between the two terms emo and scene. Kids labeled Emo and kids referred to as scenes are so very similar that it is hard to tell the difference by just looking at them. This article takes a closer look at the two terms and attempts to find out the differences between emo and scene.
Emo
Teenage is one age in the life of an individual when he has a strong desire to have a unique identity. He or she not only tries different ways to look and behave uniquely, he also listens to particular music to be seen in a different light. Emo comes from emotional, and a person categorized as emo listens to emotional and expressive music. However, to stereotype an emo as an emotional individual is to do injustice to these teenagers. However, they are not ashamed of their emotions and can cry easily at concerts when they feel like it. An emo is said to be more at home checking on his status at MySpace and Facebook than partying at discos and pubs. Some adults see them as depressed teenagers. Emo wear light colored clothes and love their small tees that depict unknown or obscure bands. There are jokes about emos being suicidal in nature, but it seems suicidal tendencies are more to grab the attention of others than being seriously true. Emos of today are a far cry from the emos of the 80’s who were into hardcore punk music and were characterized as emotional kids.
Scene
Scene kids are teenagers who listen to hardcore rock music. These kids are normally very interested in the music scene and all the latest trends in fashion and accessories. Teenage scene guys prefer to keep long hair while teenage scene girls keep short, cropped hair that is dyed in colorful shades. These kids take pride in being copied by young adults and popularize fashion trends such as small tees, girl pants, sunglasses that are oversized, broad headbands, bandanas, and so on. They are also seen sporting large ethnic jewelry. Scene kids try new fashion but add accessories to make for a dramatic style that is unique and their own. Scene kids are known for their love of cars and dinosaurs as this is reflected in the themes they choose for their profiles on MySpace and Facebook.
What is the difference between EMO and Scene?
• Emos were originally kids into hardcore rock music who were also very expressive and emotional. However, with the passage of time, emo kids have evolved into a group that has a melodramatic attitude and a typical dress sense that is as important to them as their music.
• Scene kids are young teenagers who have a keen interest in modern fashion and accessories and whom listen to modern music, especially hardcore rock. It is difficult to point out any differences between the two types of kids as both wear small tees with names of obscure bands on them but scene kids are more into coloring their hair in punk shades and wearing large sunglasses along with jewelry.
• There are talks about emo kids having suicidal tendencies though they seem to be an attempt to grab others’ attention more than being seriously true.
• Scene kids are more concerned about their looks and appearance than emo kids.
• Scene kids are more social and outgoing than emo kids.
• Tattoos and colored hairstyles are more common with scene kids than emo kids.
