EU vs UN
There is a vast difference between EU and UN in terms of the member countries as well as their agendas. European Union is an organization which is concentrating on the economy of the member states providing them with a single platform to market their products and sell them to a unified economy. United Nations, on the other hand, is an organization made to keep peace between nations and to prevent war from happening between countries. UN provides all countries in the world with a platform where they can raise their voices and get their opinions worked at after acceptance by other member states. There is more to know about each. EU or European Union is a group of a number of states which are combined on the basis of economy and union in political grounds, as well. EU is situated in Europe and has indulged a number of member states increasing in size quite speedily. European Union was established under its current name in 1993. Capital of the EU is Brussels. By now, there are 28 states (2015) in the European Union. The decisions of EU are based on the opinions of the states that act as its members. European Union has a parliament, which has elections held every 5 years. The participants of these elections are EU citizens. EU has made a single market, which has a system of laws that are standard and are applied to all the states which are members. European Union makes sure that the movement of services and people in this area are maintained. EU has generated 26 percent of the total economy. European Union has a population of 507, 416, 607 as calculated in the year 2014.

United Nations is an internationally accepted organization which aims at providing its cooperative services in laws, security, economy, and laws to create peace in the world. UN was founded in 1945, after the end of World War 2 in order to achieve global peace and to create a platform where dialogues can happen. Headquarters of the UN is in New York. Currently, UN has about 193 members all of which are the recognized states in the world. The organization runs with six main blocks, which are Security Council, General Assembly, Secretariat, Economic and Social Council, International Court of Justice and UN Trusteeship Council. UN is working with a number of organizations currently such as the World Food Programme (WFP) and World Health Organization (WHO).
What is the difference between EU and UN?
• EU stands for European Union while UN stands for United Nations.
• EU currently has 28 members and UN currently has 193 members.
• European Union is limited to the Europe. United Nations is to the whole world.
• European Union was founded to boost the economical and political aspects of the member European countries while United Nations was founded, especially, with the hope of upholding international peace.
• The EU is conducted by a parliamentary system. UN is an organization that takes resolutions by discussion. However, the five permanent member of the UN Security Council (China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, and United States) have the power to veto any decision taken.
• When it comes to leadership, there are three leaders for the three different institutions of the EU. President of the European Commission is Jean-Claude Juncker (2015). President of the European Council is Donald Tusk (2015). Finally, the President of the European Parliament is Martin Schulz (2015). European Council gives direction to the EU, European Commission is responsible for running the EU while European Parliament forms one half of the EU’s legislature. (EU legislature = European Parliament + European Council).
• Leadership of UN is done by the Secretary General. The present Secretary General is Ban Ki-moon (2015). Each council also has their presidents.
• Official languages of UN are Arabic, English, French, Chinese, Russian and Spanish. There are 24 official languages for EU.
