These are two different breeds of dog, which could easily be confused practically if unfamiliar or unaware about them. However, it is never like seeing the dogs in person and let the mind do the differentiation. Fox Terrier

Fox terrier is a combination of two breeds known as Smooth fox terrier and Wire fox terrier. Except for the coat and colour markings, they both have much similar characteristics. Additionally, it would be very difficult to differentiate them, if not for the characteristic wire-like hairs on the snout in Wire fox terriers. Some people even refer them as one breed with two different coat variations. However, fox terriers originated in the United Kingdom. They come in white coats with colour markings. Smooth fox terriers have a short and hard white coat with black and brown patches, whereas Wire fox terrier has double coat, which is hard and coarse. Their fur coat is long and twisted but not curly. There is a prominent hair growth between cheeks. The head is long and wedge shaped, and the ears are V-shaped and flapped forwards. Importantly, they have small, dark expressive eyes those can play mind games with their owners. The height to the withers is about 36 to 39 centimetres, and they have a weight ranging from 6.8 to 8.6 kilograms. They usually live about 15 years, and which is a long and blessed lifespan.

Jack Russell Terrier

This is a small terrier developed in England for foxhunting. They have a white coloured short and rough coat of fur with brown or black patches. They are not very tall and heavy, but the height at the withers is about 25 to 28 centimetres, and the weight is about 6 to 8 kilograms. In fact, it is a compact and balanced body structure. Their head is balanced and proportionate to the body. The skull is flat and narrowed towards eyes, and ends up with nostrils. Their ears are V-shape and flapped forwards as in fox terriers. They are energetic dogs, and require heavy exercises and stimulations for a better health. Jack Russell terriers can live a long life ranging around 13 – 16 years.
