HTC 10 Review – Features and Specifications

The HTC 10 can be considered to be a real return of a quality device, when considered with a device like One A9 and Desire 530 which were underwhelming. The HTC 10 can also be considered the best smartphone produced after the HTC One M7, which is capable of going head-on with smartphone market leaders like iPhone 6S, Samsung Galaxy S7, and LG G5.

The design, as well as the performance of the phone, is top class The UI has been designed to be very close to stock Android, which can be expected to provide simplicity and a great user experience.

Design

Although the flagship design is a new one for the HTC 10, it has many similar features when compared to its predecessor. The phone is made up of metal, giving it a premium look. The back of the phone comes with an elegant curve which makes it a comfort in the hand. These curves and chamfered edges give the phone a stylish flair. The back of the device is cool to touch as it is made up of metal. This design enables the finger to grip the phone firmly and to sit in the hand comfortably. It can be considered to be one of the cleanest devices around, the brand logo also has been removed from the device which is a difference from its predecessor.

The side of the device will host the volume control button and the sleep wake button. The sleep wake button is beveled to make its identification easy. Many smartphone manufacturers have adopted a single tray which comprises a Nano SIM on a micro SD card. HTC uses individual trays for each card. It would have been nice to see both the cards together but in reality, it makes little difference. As with any metal designed phone, two antenna bands break up the sleek design on the top and the bottom of the device. This is present even with the latest iPhone devices. But in the HTC 10, it does not stand out that much. As with the iPhone, it seems to be a part of the design.

LG opted for a modular design on its device which is a bit risky whereas the HTC 10 has played safe with its design on the phone. From a look and feel point of view, the device is made to the utmost precision.  The phone is symmetrical where all the elements of the device are aligned. These include the headphone jack, USB C port, camera sensor. Overall, the HTC is a stunning phone which comes with more realistic features.

The size of the display is 5.2 inches while the resolution has seen an improvement in 2560 X 1440 quad HD resolution. The color gamut covered by the sRGB display is 99.9 %. The LCD panel used by the device is the 5th generation is impressive, to say the least. Although it may lack the vibrancy found on the Super AMOLED display, it is not far behind. The difference can only be noticed if the two panels were kept side by side. The scanner works fast and accurately.

Processor

The hardware also has seen an improvement. The fingerprint scanner is found on the capacitive home button. This arrangement is similar to that found on the HTC One A9 as well. The fingerprint is scanned on standby and unlocks and moves on to the home screen when authenticated. The device is also able to support motion gestures which will open up different apps accordingly. Swiping down twice will launch the camera app. HTC 10 comes with the best processing package. As with the other smartphone devices, HTC is also prioritizing the pixel size rather than the megapixel count. The pixel size has been increased to 1.55 microns. While the aperture stands at f / 1.8. This will enable the smartphone camera to perform well in low light conditions. The camera is also powered with optical image stabilization which will further increase the image quality. The camera application has been enhanced so that all important modes are found in the main area itself. THE HDR help is shooting the best shot for any given situation.  The detail, color accuracy of the captured images are more realistic. The front facing camera comes with a resolution of 5 MP, which also comes with OIS and can record high-resolution audio while recording when shooting videos. The UI also comes with blink feed which can function as the secondary home screen of the device which will unveil feeds like headlines and news.

Connectivity

The device supports connectivity features like NFC. The call quality of the device is up to mark as well. The speakers being used will further enhance the call quality of the device. This battery capacity enables the device to last throughout the day without any issues. This feature also allows games to be scaled down to full HD to save battery power on the device. The device is also capable of quick charging capabilities with the help of Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. Half an hour of charge will enable the device to last for a full day. The USB Type-C help in this regard as well.

Additional/ Special Features

The capacitive touch button that is below the display is very much like a touch pad rather than a button.  The device also features fingerprint scanner as with many Android phones in the market. Samsung Galaxy S7 comes with a pressable button which consists of the fingerprint scanner which will sound a click, but this does not come with the HTC model.

The HTC uses capacitive and recent app keys. Theses keys sit on either side of the home button. Both the physical keys as well as virtual keys are present, and the user can use whatever key he prefers. Using physical keys will clear up screen real estate which will be an advantage for the user.

The audio features are one of the marquee features that accompany the device. As with its predecessor, Boom sound is still available, but its implementation has seen a difference. The front facing speakers have moved to the top of the device whereas the subwoofers which will produce high-quality low frequencies are at the bottom. Although the sound produced by the front facing speaker can be considered to be louder, the quality of the sound has improved with this edition.

The headphone jack is placed on the top of the device, and this is where the real magic happens. When the Res ear phones are plugged into the device, the earphones will produce quality sound thanks to the 24 bit DAC and the headphone AMP that comes with the device.
