Immigration vs Migration

Though migration and immigration appear to be closely related, there is a lot of difference between immigration and migration when it comes to their usage. Immigration and migration are both nouns. Migrational is an adjective derived from migration. Immigration is a word that means moving to a country. On the other hand, migration is a word that means moving to a place momentarily. This is one of the primary differences between the two words immigration and migration. Since both seem to speak about movement, let us now pay close attention to each of the terms, migration and immigration, in order to see the difference between immigration and migration.

What does Immigration mean?

It is said that immigration has derived from the Latin immigrare. This word means to go into. According to the meaning presented in the introduction, there is a permanent movement in the case of immigration. Immigration is the movement into a country for want of better living conditions and job placement. You would not mind moving on a permanent basis in the case of immigration. Immigration is controlled by some strict rules of law because every host country would like to know the reasons for the immigration of its own citizens to other countries or places. Therefore, strict rules and laws control immigration. Unlike migration that is a natural phenomenon, immigration is not quite natural but it pertains to the decision of the citizen.

What does Migration mean?

According to the meaning given in the introduction, there is a momentary movement in the case of migration. Moreover, unlike in immigration where you go to another country permanently, you migrate to another place temporarily either in terms of employment or as a kind of sojourn. As shown by the Oxford English dictionary “seasonal movement of animals from one region to another” is another meaning for migration. Birds generally migrate from one place to another place during special seasons for want of better living conditions and prey. Such birds are called migratory birds. The Siberian crane is one of the best examples of migratory birds. It is interesting to note that birds migrate from Australia, Siberia and other countries and regions during some seasons and return to their native place after spending some time in other places. Furthermore, unlike immigration, migration is not controlled by legal methods or rules of law. Migration is quite natural.
