The next generation iPad comes with high end features that will fulfill most of the user expectations. A new quad core A6 processor will power the device that sports a 9.7″ HD (2048 x 1536 pixels) Retina display and an 8MP camera. iPad 3 will be shipped with iOS 5.1. The exterior of iPad 3, for the first look, is almost the same as iPad 2, but it will be tweaked slightly. Also, iPad 3 will have variations for 3G, 4G connectivity as well as Wi-Fi for continuous connectivity. Though iPad 3 was expected to support both 4G-LTE and 4G-WiMAX networks, there is no confirmation yet about 4G-WiMAX capability. Also, as usual it will have the Wi-Fi only version too, and all iPad 3 variations come with built in Wi-Fi that comply with 802.11b/g/n standard. However, our concern in this article is to discuss the difference between 4G model and Wi-Fi only model.

As said earlier, iPad 3 Wi-Fi model supports 802.11b/g/n standards and suitable for you if you are using the pad only in Wi-Fi enabled area or near wireless hotspot. You can connect to internet through the high speed internet router at home or you can use your mobile as router and connect to internet using your mobile data plan. The device will be slightly lighter and does not have a SIM card slot. The price is also low compared to other models. However, all the other features will be the same as 3G, 4G models. It will also have 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB stroage options. The price depends on the storage size.

The advantage in Wi-Fi model is the FaceTime, you can face to face chat with your family and friends using the dual camera or make video calling to them.

Apple iPad 3 4G-LTE

iPad 3 4G-LTE also will have the Wi-Fi connectivity that supports 802.11b/g/n and, in addition to that, it supports the 4G networks, which enable continuous connectivity. When you take it outside 4G network area, it will automatically transfer to 3G/2G network connectivity. Here you will have a LTE modem in tandem with the processor and SIM card slot. Because of these, the device will be slightly heavier than Wi-Fi only model. All other features will remain the same for all variation, and it also offers three storage options. 4G models will carry a higher price tag and the price also depends on the storage size.

Your purchasing decision depends on whether you need continuous connectivity or not. If you want to be connected all the time at all the places, even at places where there is no Wi-Fi hotspots, you may have to opt for either 3G model or 4G model. Again selection of 3G or 4G depends on whether you need faster connectivity. 4G connectivity is ten times or more faster than 3G connectivity.

When you buy a 3G/4G models and, if you decide to connect via 3G/4G networks, you also have to choose a monthly data package from your carrier. Alternatively, you don’t have to activate 3G/4G service immediately, since there is no contract as such for iPad.
