Difference Between Krishna and Rama

Krishna vs Rama

Krishna and Rama are two mythological characters from India that show difference between them in terms of the period in which they lived, the place they ruled, and the like. Krishna belonged to the Dvapara Yuga, whereas Rama belonged to the Treta Yuga or epoch.

Krishna was born to Devaki and Vasudeva, whereas Rama was born to Dasaratha and Kausalya. Both of them are considered to be the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Krishna ruled from Dwaraka, whereas Rama became the king of Ayodhya.

Krishna stood behind the Pandavas when they underwent exile to forest for twelve years. On the other hand, Rama himself went in exile to forest for fourteen years. This is a major difference between the two. Both met with natural death. While Krishna was killed by an arrow left from the bow of a hunter by accident, Rama entered into the Sarayu River to complete his life span.

Krishna’s son was Pradyumna, and Rama’s sons were Lava and Kusa. Krishna is said to have killed several demons during his childhood, including Putana, Sakatasura, Bakasura, and Kamsa to name a few. Later, he killed Sisupala, the king of Chedi too. On the other hand, Rama is said to have killed the king of Lanka, Ravana. He traveled all the way to Lanka with his monkey troops to kill Ravana, who abducted Rama’s wife.

Krishna’s childhood and his exploits were described in an elaborate fashion in the Bhagavata Purana. On the other hand, Rama’s story was explained elaborately in the Ramayana written by Sage Valmiki. Rama is the eldest of the four sons of Dasaratha, whereas Krishna is younger to his brother Balarama. Krishna played a major role in the Kurukshetra war in the Mahabharata. Rama played a major role in the killing of Vali, the brother of Sugriva.
