The two handsets we are going to talk about today are Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 and Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus. They are at the introduction stage. Galaxy Ace 2 was only announced at the MWC 2012 in Febuary 2012, and the Galaxy Ace Plus was introduced in January 2012.

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2

Here comes another smartphone you can invest without any second thoughts. It doesn’t look elegant and expensive but has the same design as the rest of the Galaxy family. The rounded edges come more rounded, and it is also somewhat thicker. However, that was to be expected since it’s the second version of Galaxy Ace after all. It comes with 3.8 inches PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen display featuring a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels at a pixel density of 246ppi. It is bright and has vibrant colors, and we are pleased with the resolution it offers. Ace 2 is powered by 800MHz dual core processor with 768MB of RAM and runs on Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread. I would say the operating system is a good choice for a processor of this clock rate and Samsung will not offer an upgrade for ICS for this handset, which is understandable. It has an internal storage of 4GB with the option to expand using microSD card up to 32GB.

The handset comes with 5MP camera with autofocus and LED flash along with geo tagging and the capability to capture 720p videos @ 30 frames per second. The secondary camera is of VGA quality, but that would suffice for video conferencing purposes. The connectivity is defined using HSDPA that can provide speeds up to 14.4 Mbps. The Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n ensures continuous connectivity, and Ace 2 can also act as a wi-fi hotspot to share your internet connection with your friends. Consumer can also stream rich media content wirelessly to their Smart TV using the DLNA capability. It has 1500mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus

This was announced in the month of January and expected to be released soon. It looks more or less like Ace 2 but somewhat small and thicker. The dimensions are 114.5 x 62.5mm and 11.2mm thick with a weight of 115g. It has 3.65 inches TFT capacitive touchscreen featuring a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels at a pixel density of 158ppi. It is powered by 1GHz Scorpion single core processor on top of Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 chipset and Adreno 200 GPU with 512MB of RAM. The operating system is Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread, which would be ideal given the hardware restrictions. Ace Plus has an internal storage of 3GB with the option to expand it using microSD card up to 32GB.

Galaxy Ace Plus comes with 5MP camera with autofocus and LED flash along with geo tagging. It can capture VGA quality video at 30 frames per second, which is not that effective at all. Ace Plus doesn’t have a secondary camera for video conferencing either, which may be a deal breaker. It has HSDPA connectivity that can reach speeds up to 7.2Mbps and additionally have Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, as well. As Ace 2, Ace Plus can host a wi-fi hotspot to share your internet connection as well as can wirelessly stream rich media content to your Smart TV with DLNA. Ace Plus hosts a 1300mAh standard battery, and we assume it would have the power to make the phone work for 6-7 hours at least.
