Samsung Galaxy S7 – Review and Features

The latest Samsung flagship phone, the Samsung Galaxy S7, is very much similar to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S6. When kept side by side, the two devices do not show much of a difference. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is an eye-catching device which may be the most elegant device to be designed by Samsung yet.

Design

The device is waterproof and dust resistant. This means that the device can be submerged in 1m of water for up to 30 minutes. The body is made up of metal and glass, giving the phone a stunning and premium look. Like the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Samsung Galaxy S7 also has curves on its rear, which makes it a comfort to hold in the hand. The protruding camera has also disappeared with this model. The camera on this device sits flush with the glass of the phone. The waterproof feature is also a feature that had disappeared in previous devices but now is back with this device. This comes with the IP68 rating, which enables the devices to withstand an accidental shower due to rain or an accidental drop into the water.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy S7 comes with a display of 5.1 inches and is powered using Super AMOLED technology. The display comes with a new feature that is known as Always On, which lets selected number of pixels be turned on so that it could show the calendar, clock or notifications without needing to unlock the device. This feature is believed only to eat up 1 % on the battery per hour; which will be great.  This is expected to save power on the battery and prolong the battery life of the device. Although it has the same display specifications as its predecessors, the display is brighter since the technology behind the display has been improved. The display is able to produce stunning, vibrant colors, and the viewing angle produced is also great.

Processor

According to the region, the device is released, the device will come with the Snapdragon 820 processor or the Exynos processor.

Storage

The micro SD card was ditched on the previous model. But with the new Samsung Galaxy S7 device, this feature is back, mainly due to the uproar caused by its consumers. Google’s Android Marshmallow flex storage is not supported by the device. This means that the expandable storage cannot be converted as a part of the internal storage.

Camera

The rear camera comes with a resolution of 12 MP, which is able to produce brighter photos when compared with the Samsung Galaxy S7. The aperture of the camera is f 1.7, and it is also supported by autofocus. The resolution has been reduced to 12 MP from 16 MP, which may steer up some debate. The autofocus feature that comes with the camera is also really fast. The front facing camera comes with a resolution of 5MP, which will be ideal for detailed selfies.

Memory

The RAM that comes with the device is 4GB, which is ample space for multitasking and running graphic intensive games.

Operating System

The operating system that comes with the device is the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system with the user interface being the Touch Wiz.

Battery Life

The battery capacity of the device is 3000mAh, which uses fast charging and adaptive charging. The battery is non-removable, but this battery will be able to last throughout the day without any issue.

Google Nexus 6P Review – Features and Specifications

The Google Nexus 6P has been built by Huawei and is a quality device, to say the least. This is the first time that Google has partnered with Huawei to make the hardware of the smart device.

Design

The cues for the Google Nexus 6P have been taken from Huawei’s Mate series; both smartphones have the same design features. Huawei has made its design a trademark and this same design is evident in the Google Nexus P as well. Although the design may be a reflection of the Huawei Mate 8, the other features of the device have been very much influenced by Google. The dimensions of the device are 159.3 x 77.8mm and the thickness of the device stands at 7.3 mm. Although the device is made up of metal, it just weighs around 178 g and is lighter than its predecessor, the Nexus 6. The ergonomics of the device have also seen an improvement, which will be welcomed by the user.

The right edge of the device has the power and volume buttons while the left side comes with the nano SIM tray.

Display

The size of the display is 5.7 inches and has a resolution of 1440 X 2560. The display technology being used is the super AMOLED, which is known to be one of the best display technologies to come with a smartphone.

Processor

The processor has been powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 Processor System on the chip. It has an octa-core processor, and it is known as big.LITTLE. There are quad-core processors made up of ARM cortex A57 and are capable of clocking a speed of 1.95 GHZ. This serves for high performance apps. Another quad-core processor made up of ARM cortex A53 in it is capable of clocking a speed of 1.55 GHz; this serves on the basis of efficiency.

The graphics department of the processor is powered with the help of a Qualcomm’s Adreno 430 GPU, which will help the screen to produce breathtaking graphics.

Storage

The built-in storage that comes with the device is 128 GB, which unfortunately does not assist expandable storage.

Camera

The camera of the Google Nexus 6P comes with Sony’s IMX377 sensor and comes equipped with a large pixel size of 1.55 microns. The resolution of the camera is limited to 12 MP while the aperture found on the lens is f 2.0. This will give a better low light performance when compared with other devices found in the market.

The front-facing camera, on the other hand, comes with a resolution of 8MP and is powered yet again by the Sony IMX179 sensor. The pixel size on the sensor is 1.4 microns and the aperture of the lens of this camera stands at f 2.4.

Memory

The memory that is available with the device is 3GB, which is ample for multitasking and graphic intensive games.

Operating System

The Android Marshmallow operating system is powered by a feature known as Doze, which shuts down apps that are not being used while in standby mode. This feature saves battery life when the device is inactive.

Battery Life

The battery capacity on the Nexus 6P stands at 3450 mAh, which will enable the device to last throughout the day without any issue.

Additional/ Special Features

The top and bottom of the front of the device have been flanked by speakers while the display sits in the middle. Due to the dual speakers, the volume that is produced by the device is very good, but the bass produced by the device is a bit disappointing when compared with similar devices produced by Samsung and Huawei. When the volume is at its highest, distortion in evident in the sound. The device also offers full stereo, unlike its predecessor that only offered normal audio playback. The top speakers seem to be louder than the bottom speakers, giving an odd feeling when the device is used in landscape mode. Yet HTC seems to have the best speakers in the mobile market offering the best user experience.

Finger Print Scanner

The back of the device also comes with a fingerprint scanner to increase the secureness of the device even further. This is called Nexus Imprint. This fingerprint scanner has been placed in such a perfect position that it can be unlocked when pulling it out of the pocket, thus saving time and making it very easy to unlock the device. The fingerprint scanner can be used to make payments with the help of Android Pay and Google Pay.

Another new feature with the device is that double-tapping on the home button launches the camera. This is a cool feature that makes it convenient when a shot needs to be taken in a hurry.
