Skateboarding vs Longboarding
To someone who does not know about a board, Longboarding and skateboarding look like similar sporting activities with the individual pushing the same board that runs on wheels. But, despite ostensible similarities (a Longboard is of course a longer skateboard), there are differences between skateboarding and Longboarding that will be discussed in this article.
Skateboarding
Skateboarding is a very popular activity that involves propelling oneself on a wooden frame with one foot on the board and the other one on the road. The skateboard moves ahead as it has wheels fitted underneath it. Skateboarding is an activity that started in the 1950’s. Boarders initially wanted to glide over the walkways and sidewalks. A skateboard is made up of wood, and the deck is the most important part upon which the user stands. This deck is 7-10 inches wide and 28-33 inches long. There are two trucks attached to the underneath of the skateboard. This truck is secured with the base of the board and carries a pair of wheels.
Longboarding
A Longboard is a longer version of a skateboard that is used for Longboarding. If a skateboard is made to glide over ramps and sidewalks, Longboard is used to race downhill and to get from point A to point B. There are people who compare Longboarding to surfing and say that it is surfing on concrete. The design of a longboard is such that it allows the user to take big and sharp turns with ease. Some say that Longboarding started in southern California though there are also people who feel that Longboarding originated in Hawaii Islands.
Skateboarding vs Longboarding
• Longboards have bigger decks and larger wheelbases than skateboards.
• There is more room to maneuver in the case of a Longboard than a skateboard.
• Skateboarding is ideal for streets and ramps and sidewalks whereas Longboarding is suitable for downhill racing and to get from point A to point B.
• One thinks about tricks when talking about skateboarding while it is all about smooth sailing with Longboarding.
