Difference Between Snakebite and Spiderbite Piercing

Snakebite vs Spiderbite Piercing

Snakebite and spiderbite piercings are two common types of piercings on the mouth. Both of these come in pairs and are found on the lower lip. Different kinds of jewelry such as labrets or ball closure rings may be used for both snakebite and spiderbite piercings, depending on preference.

Snakebite Piercing

Snakebite piercing is characterized by one piercing for each side of the lower lip. You can tell from the name itself that this piercing looks as if a snake has bitten on your lower lip. This is because a snake’s fangs are far apart from each other, resulting in a large gap between the two holes being bitten. Ball closure rings and labrets may be used for snakebite piercings.

Spiderbite Piercing

Spiderbite piercing consists of a pair of piercings both on one side of the lower lip. It is called as such because spiders’ fangs are closely spaced due to the insect’s minute size. Spider bites generally look like two holes close beside each other. So in turn, the jewelry that’s used in spiderbite piercings would be positioned near each other. Usually, small jewelry are used for spiderbite piercings.

Difference between Snakebite and Spiderbite Piercing

As compared with the spiderbite piercings, snakebite piercings are a pair of pierced jewelry that are positioned farther apart than that of the former. Spiderbite piercings are found on one side of the lower lip. On the other hand, the snakebite piercings occupy the two sides of the lower lip, with one on each side. Most spiderbite piercings involve jewelry that are small and proportionate to the mouth, because larger-sized jewelry would appear too bulky for closely-spaced piercings. In contrast, snakebite piercings can be done with either small or large jewelry.

Before you decide on which kind of piercing to apply on your lip, you have to evaluate some factors such as lip size and the shape of your face that can determine the type of piercing that looks best on you.

In brief:

• Spiderbite piercings are two closely-spaced piercings found on one side of the lower lip.

• Snakebite piercings involve two piercings far apart from each other, with one on each side of the lower lip.
