Difference Between Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo and Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo vs Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo and Xperia Arc together with Xperia Play and possibly Xperia Duo are the Xperia series new releases for first quarter of 2011 from Sony Ericsson. SE Xperia Arc has already been unveiled in January 2011 and the curtain to be raised on SE Xperia Neo in Barcelona by the 2nd week of February. SE Xperia Neo and Xperia Arc have many similarities in internal design. It’s interesting to know that Sony Ericsson’s Xperia series smartphones run Android operating system. In that line SE Xperia Neo and Xperia Arc also run Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). And the processor in Xperia Neo and Xperia Arc are 1GHz Qualcomm processors, however it’s going to be from a different version. The processor in Xperia Neo by all possibility will be 1 GHz MSM 8X55 with Adreno 205 GPU, which has a hardware accelerated support for Adobe Flash and is expected to be four times faster than Adreno 200 that is used in 1GHz Qualcomm QSD 8250 processor used in Xperia Arc. So you can see much smoother movies and action games.

The other difference is going to be the display size, though same technology (Sony Mobile Bravia Engine, FWVGA resolution) used in both Xperia Arc and Xperia Neo, the neo display is smaller than Arc’s. Xperia Neo has got to come with 4” inch multitouch screen (854×480 pixels). Arc has got 4.2” display.

The architecture of the body also somewhat differs, Xperia Neo’s body reminds that of Vivaz’s concave design and the dimensions are smaller than Xperia Arc. Xperia Arc as the name suggests is an Arc shaped device with the centre of the arc only measuring 8.7mm.

The other features as it goes are going to be almost same, except for the front facing camera. Xperia Neo has a front facing VGA camera for video calling, which is a missing feature in Xperia Arc. A new type of camera sensor called Exmor R for mobile is used in Xperia Arc which  improves low light filming, and the same is expected in Neo too.

Anyhow, to have a full review of the device we may have to wait till it’s unveiled at the Mobile World Congress scheduled to commence on February 13, 2011.
