Difference Between Suite and Suit

Suite vs Suit

 

Suite and Suit are two words that are often confused when it comes to their meanings. Strictly speaking, they are two different words that have different meanings. The word ‘suite’ is used in the sense of ‘group of rooms’. On the other hand, the word ‘suit’ is used in the sense of ‘costume’ or ‘outfit’. This is the main difference between the two words.

Observe the two sentences,

1. The music players were given suite to stay.

2. The hotel has wonderful suites.

In both the sentences, you can find that the word ‘suite’ is used in the sense of ‘group of rooms’ and hence, the meaning of the first sentence would be ‘the music players were given group of rooms to stay’, and the second meaning can be rewritten as ‘the hotel has wonderful groups of rooms’.

Observe the two sentences,

1. The suit looks good on him.

2. He looks extremely beautiful in his suit.

In both the sentences, you can find that the word ‘suit’ is used in the sense of ‘costume’ or ‘outfit’ and hence, the meaning of the first sentence would be ‘the outfit’ looks good on him. The meaning of the second sentence would be ‘he looks extremely beautiful in his costume’.

It is interesting to note that the word ‘suit’ is sometimes used in the sense of ‘to fit’ as in the sentences,

1. The dress suited the occasion.

2. The speech will suit the place.

In both the sentences, the word ‘suit’ is used in the sense of ‘fit’ and hence, the meaning of the first sentence would be ‘the dress fitted the occasion’, and the meaning of the second sentence would be ‘the speech will fit the place’. These are the differences between the two words, namely, suite and suit.
