Difference Between Waxing and Sugaring

Sugaring vs Waxing

Waxing is one of the most popular methods of removing hair from body parts to look and feel attractive. Women have been using various wax products to get rid of hairs from under arms, legs, and other parts of the body since ages. Of late, there is another term sugaring that has become popular among those who go for hair removal from their body parts frequently. At first, both waxing and sugaring look the same because of the procedure used to get rid of hairs. However, there are differences between waxing and sugaring that will be highlighted in this article.

Waxing

Waxing is a temporary hair removal method that makes use of liquid wax. This wax is applied with the help of spatula on the parts of the body from which hair is to be removed. Wax strips, made of cloth are placed on this wax and pulled abruptly in the direction of hair growth to remove all hair from these body parts. Growth of hair after waxing is very slow, and it takes 2-8 weeks before waxing of the same body part is required again. Dead skin cells are also removed with the quick motion of hand to remove the strip along with wax. This makes the skin very soft and clear. As wax can stick to body cells, beauticians apply a bit of powder to prevent this sticking as hair removal cab be painful in that condition. Waxing is a good method to get rid of unwanted hair from non-sensitive large parts of the body such as arms and legs.

Sugaring

Sugaring is a hair removal method that is very similar to waxing. In fact, the difference lies in the product that is used for hair removal. In sugaring, beauticians make use of a mixture of sugar containing a little lime juice to remove hair from the body parts instead of sticky wax. This sugary paste is applied over the body part, and when it grasps hairs, strips of cloth are used to flick this paste away in the direction of hair growth. The paste used for sugaring is all natural, and there are no chances of allergy because of the contents. This paste does not need to be heated like wax as it can spread and stick to hairs even when it is lukewarm. With no resins inside, you can simply wash the body part where sugaring is done with plain water to clean it.

Sugaring vs Waxing

• Waxing and sugaring are very similar methods of unwanted hair removal.

• The difference lies in the product used for hair removal. In waxing, it is a liquid wax whereas, in sugaring, it is a sugar paste with lime juice.

• Wax sticks to body cells making it painful during epilating whereas sugar sticks only to hairs and not to body cells, making it least painful when removed from the body parts.

• There are no chemicals in sugaring paste, whereas wax contains chemicals and resins.

• Wax hardens quickly whereas sugaring paste wraps around the hair follicle and makes it very pliable making extraction of hair gentle and painless.

• Sugaring paste is never too hot, whereas there are chances of injury with hot wax.

• Wax is applied with a spatula whereas sugar is applied with hands while wearing gloves.
