Difference Between White Vinegar and Rice Vinegar

White Vinegar vs Rice Vinegar

White Vinegar and Rice Vinegar are the two generally known kinds of vinegar. Other types of vinegars includes but not limited to: balsamic, coconut, and cider vinegars. They are considered as part of a food’s flavouring that makes food tastes sour because of the acetic acid that all vinegars have.

White Vinegar

White vinegar, also known by other names like distilled vinegar and virgin vinegar, is a type of vinegar that have undergone a process called distillation resulting to a colourless solution. This kind of vinegar is commonly used as a cleansing tool in medicine laboratories and this is also good for preserving meat due to its high level of acid content. During summer, this is used to cure sun burns.

Rice Vinegar

Rice vinegars are fermented rice vinegar mainly found in Asian countries like Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, and China. Each country produces their own unique type of rice vinegar, like Chinese vinegars which are very strong in taste compared to that of Japanese vinegar. Black, white, and Red vinegars are its three types which, obviously, named according to the color.

Difference between White Vinegar and Rice Vinegar

There are distinctive features between White vinegars and rice vinegars. For instance, white vinegar has a high level concentration of acid that ca be used in disinfecting wounds while rice vinegars have low level of acid content that is why they are best suited as a condiment in food recipes. Rice vinegars varies in color also, like red, brown, black whereas the white vinegar, as what its name implies, is color white only or colourless. In addition, white vinegar has undergone a process called distillation and on the other hand, rice vinegars gone through fermentation.

These two kinds of vinegars, White and rice, have different applications suitable for each of them. Also, it all ends up on what you prefer to use, be it a strong kind of vinegar or just a mild one to compliment your food.
