Zune and Zune HD are portable music players, in which Zune belongs to the first generation and Zune HD is the latest. Zune is a portable music player, or should we say a complete entertainment platform from Microsoft. This digital media player is sufficient for all your music, video and podcast requirements. Within a short span since its launch, Zune has become very popular as a music player because of its outstanding features. The first generation of Zune was launched in 2006, while the fourth generation was launched in 2009 and was called Zune HD. At a first glance, there are differences between the two gadgets which are easy to pick up. While Zune has dimensions of 2.4X0.6X4.4 inches, Zune HD is smaller at 2.1X0.4X4 inches. The reduction in size of Zune HD was possible because of removal of Zune pad which had the user interface. This also allowed for a bigger screen of Zune HD, which now stands at 3.3” compared to 3.2” of Zune. Zune HD is also lighter weighing just 2.6Oz against the bulkier Zune weighing 5.6Oz. While Zune has a capacity of 30GB, Zune HD has an astounding capacity of 64GB. The screen resolution has been made much better. The resolution of Zune HD is 480X272pixels, whereas it was just 320X240pixels in Zune. The battery life that stood at 14 hours in Zune has been extended up to 33 hours of non stop entertainment.

While Zune has an intuitive interface and a very good playback facility, Zune HD provides a listening experience that can be termed as pure divine. Zune HD is packed with latest features such as OLED capacitive touch screen, video output that is HD, and even a radio that is HD. Zune HD has done away with flash memory that was there in Zune which also contributed in reducing the size and weight of the gadget.
