HTC Sensation 4G and Samsung Galaxy S 4G are both T-Mobile’s 4G smartphones. HTC Sensation 4G (previously rumored as HTC Pyramid) is the 2011 Summer addition to T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network while Samsung Galaxy S 4G is the early 2011 addition. Galaxy S 4G sports a 4″ super AMOLED display, 1GHz processor, 5MP camera, swype technology for text input and runs Android 2.2 (Froyo) with TouchWiz 3.0. While HTC Sensation has 4.3″ qHD (960 x 540) TFT super LCD display with 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor and runs the latest Android 2.3.2 (Gingerbread). HTC Sensation has a better specs than Galaxy S 4G, the CPU clock speed is double that of Galaxy S 4G. Display is larger and has a better resolution. There are many other differences too. However what lags in HTC Sensation is the internal memory it is only 1GB. Also Samsung and HTC have used skinned Android with their own UI, TouchWiz 3.0 and HTC Sense 3.0 respectively.

HTC Sensation 4G

HTC Sensation 4G is the US version of HTC Sensation (previously known as HTC Pyramid). This is a high performing smartphone that is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual core processor and features a huge 4.3” qHD display at a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. The display is using Super LCD technology and having a wider screen with a aspect ratio of 16:9. The display is covered by a contour glass up to the edge. Sensation has the standard aluminum unibody of HTC and has two tone back.

The processor is a second generation Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon chipset (same processor used in Evo 3D) that consists of 1.2 GHz dual core Scopion CPU and Adreno 220 GPU, which will deliver high speed and performance efficiency while eating less power. Running on the latest Android 2.3.2 (Gingerbread) with the new HTC Sense 3.0 UI, it gives a pleasing user experience. The new Sense UI gives a fresh look to the home screen and has included instant capture camera, multi window browsing with quick look up tool, customizable active lockscreen, 3D transitions and an immersive experience with the weather application.

This amazing phone has 768 MB RAM and 1 GB internal memory (8GB supplied on microSD card for certain countries). Internal memory can be expanded up to 32 GB using micro SD cards.

The smartphone is a dual camera device having an 8 MP camera with dual LED flash at the back that is capable of shooting HD videos at 1080p. With the instant capture camera feature introduced with the new Sense UI, you can capture the photo the moment you press the button. It also has a front 1.2 MP camera that allows users to video chat/call. Rear camera has features of face/smile detection and geo tagging. It offers surround sound experience with hi-fi audio technology. For instant media sharing it has HDMI (HDMI cable required) and also it is DLNA certified. HTC Sensation has access to HTC’s new HTC Watch video service for premium movies and TV shows.

It is the 1.2 GHz processor that makes all the difference which is felt when browsing. For connectivity, Sensation is Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP and compatible with 3G WCDMA/HSPA networks.

The phone is available with T-Mobile starting mid May 2011.

Samsung Galaxy S 4G (Model SGH-T959)

Samsung Galaxy S 4G is the first 4G phone from the Galaxy family. Also it is the first Galaxy to have a front facing camera. It’s a welcome inclusion to the galaxy device. Galaxy S 4G has adopted the same classic Galaxy design. Samsung Galaxy S 4G runs Android 2.2.1 and support HSPA+ network. At HSPA+ speed backed by 1 GHz Hummingbird processor and Android 2.2 multitasking and browsing are smooth and the call quality also good. It can be used as a mobile hotspot to connect up to 5 devices at HSPA+ speed.

Galaxy S 4G boast about its 4″ super AMOLED screen with 800 x 480 resolution, which is brighter with vivid colors, light responsive and reduced glare with a wider viewing angle. The Super AMOLED display is a unique feature of Galaxy S series. The other features include 5.0 megapixel auto focus camera, 3D sound, 720p HD video recording and play, 16GB internal memory expandable up to 32GB and DLNA certified. Galaxy S 4G is said to consume 20% less power than its previous models. Samsung claims Galaxy S 4G as an eco friendly device, it is said to be the first mobile phone that is 100% biodegradable.

The phone has a front facing camera for video calling and using the preinstalled Qik application users can make video calls via Wi-Fi or T-Mobile network. However for web based applications such as qik and mobile hotspot users need to have a broadband package from T-Mobile.

As an added attraction, T-Mobile has preloaded many applications and entertainment packages to both the devices. Some of them are Faves Gallery, Media Hub – direct access to MobiTV, Double Twist (you can sync to iTunes over Wi-Fi), Slacker Radio and the action movie Inception. Amazon Kindle, YouTube and Facebook are integrated with Android. In addtion it has access to Android Market.

Samsung Galaxy S 4G is available for $200 with a new 2 year contract and a data plan of min$30/month is required to access web based applications.
