Apple GSM iPhone 4 vs CDMA iPhone 4 | GSM iPhone 4S vs CDMA iPhone 4S
Apple iPhone has been in the global market for quite a long time now. In fact, Apple was the first one to come out with the smart phone, named iPhone 3. The next versions were iPhone 3G and 3GS, and then came the heart throb device iPhone 4. The devices are powered by Apple’s proprietary operating system, which was initially iOS2, and subsequently went through number of upgrades and the current version of the Apple operating system is iOS 4.2.1.
Though everyone were expecting the announcement of iPhone 5 in 2011, Apple announced its CDMA iPhone 4 for Verizon in US.
GSM iPhone 4
Apple iPhones are still maintaining its lead position in the global market with its sleek and stylish design, and attractive display. iPhone 4 with its vivid 3.5″ high resolution Retina display on a stainless steel frame, and the amazing UI captured the market easily. Also, Apple was the first to integrate Skype Mobile in to iPhone 4.
Its unique features include 89 mm (3.5″) LED Backlit Liquid Crystal Display with 960 x 640 pixel resolution, called Retina Display, Apple’s iOS 4 operating system, 512 MB eDRAM, rear camera with 5 megapixel illuminated sensor and 5x digital zoom, front camera with 0.3 megapixel, 16/32 GB flash memory, Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), Blue tooth, GPS with Google Map and access to the large Apple Apps store.
The GSM iPhone 4 is the first edition iPhone 4, designed for global market, which supports the 3G networks working on UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz) and 2G networks GSM and EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz).
For the US market it was tied up with the carrier AT&T.
CDMA iPhone 4
The CDMA iPhone 4 has the same features as GSM iPhone 4, the differentiation is the network support. Apple has configured the device to support CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (800, 1900 MHz). This was, in fact, designed to cater to the immediate demand of the Verizon’s 93 million customer base. However, it is not an exclusive tie up with Verizon, the device can be used in other CDMA networks also.
Another important feature of CDMA iPhone 4 is the mobile hotspot capability, which was not available in the GSM model. The CDMA model can act as a wi-fi hotspot to connect up to 5 wi-fi enabled devices.
Difference between GSM and CDMA iPhone 4(1) GSM model support UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz) whereas CDMA model support CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (800, 1900 MHz).

2G network – 850MHz: M3, T3
2G network – 1900MHz: M2, T3
CDMA model – M4, T4
Verizon will be selling the device from February 10, 2011. Pre-order for its existing customers starts on Feb. 3.
