Arguing vs Discussing
Although Arguing and Discussing are two actions that may look alike as far as their nature is concerned, there is a difference between the two. Arguing involves statement and counterstatement. Discussing involves deliberation on a particular point or topic. The main difference between arguing and discussing is that although discussing a matter can end up in a conclusion, in the case of arguing one cannot come to a proper conclusion. Through this article let us examine the differences between arguing and discussing.
What is Arguing?
Arguing involves statement and counterstatement. Arguing over a particular topic does not favorably end in a conclusion. Arguing is the seat of anger and displeasure. Arguments are characterized by the presence of a prima facie that raises objections. These objections pave the way for the arguments. Arguing over an issue is to prolong the issue without finding a permanent solution to it.
Arguing over an issue ends in a verbal fight. . Also, Arguing would end in the development of enmity between the persons that argue. It is interesting to note that arguing is an act that is strictly to be avoided in certain international games and sports like cricket and football. Players seen arguing with umpires over a decision are punished strictly according to the stern rules of the game. This is because of the fact that umpire’s decision should be respected and cannot be questioned. Now let us move on to the next word discussing.
What is Discussing?
Discussing involves deliberation on a particular point or topic. Discussing a particular topic will end in a conclusion. A discussion is the seat of intellect and development. Discussion, unlike arguing, has no place for prima facie. A healthy deliberation is the hallmark of any discussion. It can be said that discussing an issue is to find a permanent solution to it.
Discussing over an issue ends in strengthened relationship among the persons that participate in the discussion. This is because both the parties are focused on finding a solution to the problem rather than engage in a verbal conflict. Thus, it is important to know that arguing can be punishable in some disciplines. On the other hand discussing is an act that is not punishable by any means.
