Avast vs AVG

Considering the continuous growth and scope of the Internet today, it is a necessity to have an antivirus program that works effectively. The threat of viruses and bugs are all over the net, and not having the right kind of protection is a risk one should never try. However, there are a lot of options available online as well when it comes to virus protection. It can be quite a task to differentiate one from the other. AVG and Avast are two of the most popular ones in the market today. A lot of people are probably wondering what the difference between Avast and AVG is.

Avast Antivirus is a program designed to provide protection against viruses. Developed by Avast Software, a Prague, Czech Republic based company; its very first edition was released in 1988. Its basis is a central scanner that has been certified by ICSA, and its processes involve the use of anti-spyware technology. There are different versions of the program such as Avast! Free, Avast! Pro and Avast! Internet Security. The first one is freeware for personal use while the other two are both shareware for personal and commercial use.

AVG, on the other hand, is the term used to refer to a number of anti-virus software that has been designed for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux to name a few. Its developer is AVG Technologies, a Czech company. AVG Technologies provides a really wide selection of anti-virus programs to suit the varied needs and specifications of the computer and its user.

To check out the difference between Avast and AVG, a comparison between the free versions of the two programs can be conducted. AVG does not requires any email ID for a license key to be generated, and the system does not have to be restarted in order to run the program while Avast needs a valid email ID to activate the license key, and one has to restart the system in order for the software to start working. AVG comes with pop-up windows that remind users of regular security updates and downloads. Avast does not have that. More so, AVG’s interface is better, so it is easier to access its features compared to that of Avast.

As for the programs’ performance, both have the Right Click and Scan option, but Avast comes with a quick full and customized scan whereas AVG has a full system scan only. The latter also takes up more memory space during a full system scan, but it can finish the task faster than Avast can.
