Balcony vs Terrace
A balcony and terrace are very nice architectural elements in creating a building or home. This gives you a perfect view outside, where you can sit back and enjoy the scenery. These are good places inside your own house to think over or have a peace of mind.
Balcony
Balcony originated from the Italian word, ‘balcone (scaffold),’ Old german, ‘balcho (beam),’ and the Persian word, ‘bālkāneh.’ A balcony is a raised area that is designed or built from a wall of a house or building. This is supported by console, brackets, enclosed balustrade and columns. Balconies are always present and used in most stage plays, like the play Romeo and Juliet.
Terrace
Terrace’s french term is known as terrasse, terrazzo in Italian and spelled as terraza in Spanish. This is an outdoor extension that can be occupied by lots of people and is beyond ground level. These are very versatile in usage since it can cater to various activities, which includes, sunbathing, barbecuing, relaxation and entertaining guests. Sometimes, a Jacuzzi or hot tub is present on the terrace.
Difference between Balcony and Terrace
A balcony has meaningful usage throughout history. It has been used for ceremonies (like the blessing or recognition of the pope) and a special place you can use in theatres while a terrace is used mainly for relaxation. A balcony has smaller space and has a rooftop while a terrace has more space and usually open-top. A balcony is suspended in space while a terrace is attached to the ground or unsuspended. Balconies are only accessible through the area that they are attached to while terraces have entrances of their own.
Balcony and terrace are essential parts of any architectural plan. They may not be required but a building or house looks dull and boring without them. These are ideal places if you want privacy, while enjoying your morning tea, unwinding after a hectic day or watching the sunrise.
