LG has always been able to produce cutting-edge technology at an affordable cost when compared with its competitors  like Samsung and Apple. But LG is yet to receive due credit for its achievements. The LG G5 is really a unique phone. It has been built mainly to provide the user with a unique smartphone experience.

Design

The body of the device is made up of metal. The specialty of the body is its ability to change shape and add additional features. The device will feel sleek as it is made up of metal. This metal is different from the one found on previous phones. Usually, metal slits are placed outside the metal body in order for the antenna to receive proper reception. But with this model, these antennas are not needed. This is due to the microdizing process that has taken place in the body. However, LG has not revealed any details about this yet.

The LG G5 phone looks impressive and classy. There is a soft curve on the top of the device just to enhance the appearance of the phone, but other than that it looks very similar to an Android smartphone. The volume control button is found on the left side of the device whereas the power button which is placed on the back of the device doubles as a fingerprint scanner. Fingerprint scanners have been available with LG’s rivals for some time now, and it is good to see that LG is catching up with the trend. The fingerprint scanner being placed on the rear of the device is great. When we pull out the phone from the pocket, the index finger sits on the scanner naturally, which will make it easy and convenient in unlocking. This is the reason why manufacturers are placing their fingerprint scanners on the rear of the device.

Display

The size of the screen stands at 5.3 inches while the resolution remains quad HD. The display technology powering the screen is the IPS LCD display. The display is one of the brightest in the market at 900 nits and also is powered by an “always on” display. When compared with AMOLED displays, IPS displays are immune to burn-ins. The Always on Display is a key feature as it only consumes less power from the battery, rather than turning the phone on for several times just to view the time.

Processor

The processor that comes with the device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor which is believed to be super-fast.

Storage

Additional memory can be obtained with the help of a micro SD card.

Camera

There are not two, but three cameras found on the device. The two rear cameras are placed above the power button. These cameras do not sit flush with the rear of the device but are gradually curved so that the device could slide into the pocket easily. The cameras also have the support of laser autofocus. This enables the phone to be one of the fastest focusing phones around. The rear camera comes with a resolution of 16 MP and has optical image stabilization. Technically speaking, if compared with the LG G4, there is no difference in the cameras.This is where the third camera comes into play. There is an additional 8 MP camera that sits on the rear. The specialty of the camera is its ability to capture a field of view of 135 degrees, which is far more than any smartphone camera has managed to capture. Interestingly, this field of view is larger than the field which can be captured by the naked eye.

The processor is backed up by a memory of 4GB, which will enable the device to perform in a powerful and fast manner.

The operating system that comes with the device is the Android 6.0 Marshmallow skinned by the LG UX 5.0.

Battery Life

The LG G5 comes with a removable battery. The bottom of the device comes with a small button which will pop out the battery. Google had been talking about producing modular phones, but it seems as if LG is the first to produce such a device. There are two modules that come with this LG device, one being the LG Cam plus camera with a battery which has a capacity of 2800 mAh. The camera comes with a dedicated button to capture videos. The module can be held easily while the same offers zoom control as well.

The other is the Audio module. The audio is enhanced for the first time with aptX- HD. This is specially used to stream quality audio retaining detail while transmitting audio with the help of Bluetooth. The audio module is also capable of handling 32-bit audio thanks to teaming up with B&O.

Design

The specialty of this device is that it comes with a secondary display. The resolution of the secondary display is 1040 × 160 pixels. This feature will be especially useful for displaying notifications. This small strip of display can also be used to display a download progress bar and a subject of an email without having to pull the whole notification bar down. It also comes with a passive mode which can show new messages on it without waking up the primary display. Another convenience of the secondary display is the ability to show track titles which can help in the audio controls to play or move to the next track in line. Although there are a lot of useful features, it does not seem to come with features that make this device a must-have. The body also comes with a texture which can be gripped with ease. There are two front-facing cameras on the device. This may seem like an overkill. Even if a person is addicted to selfies, it makes less sense in swapping between the close cropped and wide angle lenses to capture an image. The more durable device of the two would be easily the LG V10. There are two stainless steel bars on the side of the device to reinforce this. The memory that comes with the device is 4 GB. The built-in storage is 64 GB where 51 GB is maximum user storage. The device also supports expandable storage via micro SD card.

Although the LG V10 is powered by an older processor, it is able to get any work thrown at it done without any issues. The LG G5 comes with a newer processor which will have increased efficiency and speed.
