Motorola Droid X2 vs HTC Droid Incredible 2

Motorola Droid X2 and HTC Droid Incredible 2 are two 2011 summer releases for Verizon’s CDMA network. Both are joining Verizon’s Droid series, HTC Droid Incredible 2 joins the red eye Droid series with Samsung Droid Charge. Both Motorola Droid and HTC Droid are using Android 2.2 with their own UI, Motorola Droid X2 using Motoblur for UI and HTC Droid Incredible 2 using HTC Sense UI. Motorola Droid X2 is a dual-core phone with 4.3″ qHD (960 x 540) TFT LCD display, 8MP camera with dual LED flash and HDMI port. The processor is Nvidia Tegra 2. While HTC Droid Incredible 2 is the US version of Incredible S, HTC’s flagship handset at the MWC 2011 in Barcelona. It has a 4 inch WVGA (800 x 480) super LCD display, 8MP camera and powered by 1GHz processor. The clock speed of the CPU in Droid X2 is double that of Droid Incredible 2 and the display is also larger than the Droid Incredible 2 display.

Motorola Droid X2

Motorola Droid X2 is a dual-core phone with 4.3″ qHD (960 x 540) TFT LCD display, 8MP camera with dual LED flash and it can capture HD video in 720p. The camera features include auto/continuous focus, panorama shot, multishot and geotagging. For text input it has swype technology in addition to the multi-touch virtual keyboard.

For media sharing it supports DLNA and HDMI mirroring and for social networking it has integrated Facebook, twitter and MySpace. For location based services it has A-GPS with Google Maps and if you want you can share your location with Google Latitude. The phone also can be turned in to a Wi-Fi hotspot (separate subscription required to use this feature), you can share your 3G connection with five other Wi-Fi enabled devices.

It also has other standard features like Adobe flash player for seamless browsing, tap/pinch to zoom, wireless connection via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, Customizable homescreen and resizable widgets, Android Market for application and Verizon offers Vcast Music. The phone is Enterprise-ready with security features.

HTC Droid Incredible 2

HTC Droid Incredible 2 features a faster next generation 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 processor (the same processor used in HTC ThunderBolt), 4 inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) super LCD display, 768MB RAM, 8MP rear camera with dual Xenon flash that can capture HD video at 720p. The super LCD display is very clear and produce vivid colors, better than the display of the previous Incredible. On the design side, it is similar to HTC Incredible S, there is no physical button in the front. The on screen button rotates when you change to landscape.

For connectivity it has Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth v2.1 with FTP/OPP for file transfer and a microUSB port available on the left side edge. The other features include surround sound environment via SRS WOW HD, Bluetooth A2DP for wireless stereo headset,DLNA, GPS with preloaded maps and unified inbox for all email accounts.

The phone runs Android 2.2.1 with HTC Sense, but the operating system is upgradeable to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). HTC Sense offers 7 homescreens that can be customized. It’s a world phone with the capability to roam globally, so you can carry this phone when you go outside US.

Verizon’s pricing and availability

Both Motorola Droid X2 and HTC Droid Incredible 2 are two new additions to Verizon’s Droid series. Both the phones are availble at Verizon’s online store. HTC Droid Incredible 2 was released in April 2011. Motorola Droid X2 pre-order starts from 16 May 2011 and launch on 26 May 2011. Verizon has priced both, Motorola Droid X2 and HTC Droid Incredible 2 at $200 on a new two year contract. Customers have to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan and a 4G LTE data package. Nationwide Talk plans starts from $39.99 monthly access and an unlimited 4G LTE data plan begins at $29.99 monthly access.
