Pub and Club are two different terms altogether which are often confused for one another due to the close relation of the two words. It is important to understand the difference between these two terms properly, as a better understanding of the two will allow the proper usage of the two words

What is a Pub?

A pub, commonly known as a bar is a place where alcoholic drinks such as wines, cocktails, beer and other types of beer are sold legally to people within the premises. One has to be of a certain age in order to enter a pub as underage citizens are prohibited from entering such places. The pubs provide their customers seating and space to consume their drinks and to lounge about within the premises or outside. Many pubs feature various types of entertainment such as live music, stand-up comedians and even adult entertainment at certain points. Restrictions include the location where these establishments can be placed and to the kinds of alcohol they can serve. Muslim countries either prohibit pubs or advise the controllers of these establishments to not let a Muslim citizen enter. There are different types of pubs as well such as gay bars, blues, cocktail lounges, wine bars as well as dive bars.

What is a Club?

A club can be defined as a place where one can meet different kinds of people who share the same interests and goals. The most popular use of club is in reference to nightclubs where people gather in order to socialize while sharing a drink or a snack. A nightclub also typically features DJ music and people can be seen dancing or socializing over drinks. However, there are many kinds if clubs that vary from the interest each member shares with each other. Below are some of the different types of clubs:

• School Clubs – these clubs usually fall under the category of the curriculum.

• Professional Societies – these are clubs that give professionals the opportunity to expand their knowledge through educational meetings.

• Hobby Clubs – Hobby clubs bring people with similar interests and hobbies together.

• Buying Clubs – A type of club requiring formal membership, a buying club allows their members to buy limited edition stocks with discounts while also providing freebies from time to time.

• Social Clubs –Members of social clubs openly compete with each other in terms of sports, board and mind games. There are also certain social clubs that are formed with the aim of serving humanity such as Rotary club, Lion’s club.

What is the difference between Pub and Club?

Although mostly used as synonyms for one another, pub and club stand for two different things altogether. There are many differences that set them apart.

• The main aim of a pub is providing its customers with alcohol. A Club by definition is a place where people of common interest flock together in order to socialize. The most commonly referred to location as ‘club’ is a nightclub where the main aim is socializing.

• In order to enter a pub, one needs to be over a certain age. Most clubs do not have such age barriers.

• In order to be part of certain clubs, people need to obtain its membership. For pubs, obtaining memberships is not required.

 

In brief:

1. Pub and club are often used as synonyms due to the word ‘club’ being commonly associated with nightclubs.

2. Pub is a place that offers alcoholic drinks to its customers. Club is a place where individuals with common interests gather.
