Transvestites vs Transsexuals
Transsexuals and transvestites are similar looking, but different identities. Humans sometimes like to either appear as, or transform into, their opposite sex. The scientific background is important to understand well about these phenomena. Some animals often change their sex, e.g. birds and fish. Therefore, it is not an artificial or a made up story but a natural and possible phenomenon.
Transvestites
Transvestitism has a long history, which dates back to the time of man’s origin. Additionally, the Holy Bible talks about the transvestites. They dress like the opposite sex, i.e. males dress like females or vice versa. In the early 20th century, the term was coined as the persons who wear opposite sex’s clothes habitually and voluntarily, with either heterosexual or homosexual or bisexual or asexual interests. Transvestites have neither physiological nor morphological sexual changes, but psychologically they belong to the opposite sex more often than not. Because of this state of mind, they like to change their names according to their desires. However, certain people dress like the opposite sex in order to fulfill their sexual desires, but the transvestitism does not include them. If cross-dressing takes place for erotic purposes, then it could lead up to mental distress or impairment known as transvestic fetishism. However, because some wears like the opposite sex for recreational purposes, the term transvestite does not suit to him or her. A real transvestite does not necessarily have to have a certain sexual interest, and he or she wears like the opposite sex without any other’s influence.
Transsexuals
People who undergo the sexual reassignment surgery are the transsexuals. For example, a person born as a male will undergo the surgery to become a female by means of both morphologically and physiologically. Transgender is another term for the transsexual. However before the surgery was invented, the transsexuals were there. Therefore, a more precise definition for a transsexual would be a person whose sexual identity is inconsistent. It could be a result of mental impairment between the anatomical and the psychological states of a person. A study has proven that an area of the human brain, bed nucleus of the stria terminalis, is different in transsexuals. Additionally, genetic inheritance could also be a cause for this phenomenon according to reports by BBC in 2008. Sexual or gender reassignment surgery has been a good answer for the transsexuals’ desires. However, recent studies have confirmed that people who took the surgery tend to regret the reassignment of gender in their elder lives. Transsexuals in the end have almost all the sexual characteristics of the opposite sex through various techniques for including hormonal treatments.
What is the difference between Transvestites and Transsexuals? One could discuss these two types of people with a direct relationship, as their psychological states are similar. However, they are different in their morphology and physiology. – Transvestites only dress like the opposite sex, and do not possess sexual organs and the hormones accordingly inside their bodies, on the other hand transsexuals have organs and circulatory hormones according to the gender change. – In addition, transvestite could lead to be a transsexual; conversely, transsexual does not go back to be a transvestite. None of these phenomena has anything to do with extreme sexual desires or fetishism, but mental states, which are not paired with the natural anatomy and physiology.
