Gram Positive vs Gram Negative Bacteria

Both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria have their own kind of cell walls and they can be checked in the medical laboratories. As the names imply the gram positive and the Gram negative bacteria refers to the two different types of bacteria. Both have different features. The positive and the negative Gram bacteria must not be considered to be of the same type in any way. The uses and affects of both are discussed as under.

Gram Positive Bacteria

The Gram positive bacteria are in dark shades normally, they have dark blue and dark purple shades when they undergo the process of straining. The main features of these bacteria are studied on the basis of their membrane, cell wall that is of its own type and lastly the presence of these bacteria in the cytosol. This type is quite uncomplicated in nature and its protein formation is useful in providing protection against infections. As this is a bacterium, it definitely has some side affects, the medical researchers have worked a lot on it, and they have given some solutions to the problems caused by them. There are the remedial solutions given for the defects arise by the cell walls of the bacteria. From the few years scientists have came to know about the uses of the cell wall of Gram positive bacteria, it is used to preserve the food items also. Having the cell wall is its major constituent that protects it, helps it interacting with the surroundings, and makes it unique from the other forms of bacteria.

Gram Negative Bacteria

A gram negative bacterium does not hold any cell wall but its membrane and protein pathway are its constituents that undergo certain interactions. The general secretary pathway allows the secretion of the proteins present in it. During the process of straining their colors turned to reddish or pinkish in shades. If it gets worse it might be very hazardous to the patients. Today, antibodies are present to provide protection against the effects. The reason to why they are named as negative is because of their straining result that holds that they can not retain the original color. The affects of these bacteria are that once they enter into the human blood stream they destroy the tissues at a very rapid pace, and here the person is in danger because although the antibodies are present but it is quite impossible to clean up all the infected blood of the body. The person might get into the state of depression, weakness, cold, dehydrations and stomach upset. Other than that they also cause diarrhea, pneumonia, infections in bloodstream and urine passing.

Difference between gram positive and gram negative bacteria

The main difference between the two forms of bacteria is between the cell walls of the two. The positive one, as mentioned above has a thick protected surrounding while the other has an inner layer of membrane. The cell wall of the positive gram bacteria is stronger than the other. Another discussed difference is the difference between their shades, after the process of straining the first one show the dark shades of purple, while the second one shows the change in shades; it illustrates reddish shades in it. The external membrane, which the negative gram holds is not present in the other one. The peptidoglycan can be found in both but it must be noticed that the location and width of it is different in both. The gap of the periplasm is not observed in the gram positive. The nature of toxins and flagella and the resistance power is also different in both the bacteria.
