BlackBerry Bold 9780 vs Torch 9800
BlackBerry Bold 9780 and Torch 9800 are both BlackBerry OS 6 devices. BlackBerry Torch 9800 is the Research In Motion’s (RIM) latest addition to its BlackBerry Smartphone family. It is the first Torch version with touch screen and slide out QWERTY keyboard. Bold 9780 is the latest edition of the BlackBerry Bold Smartphones. Both devices are powered by BlackBerry OS 6.
Torch 9800
Torch 9800 has incorporated the large touch screen design of the Storm and the physical full QWERTY keyboard of Bold in to its new design. It has 3.2″ capacitive HVGA display with a resolution of 480 x 360pixels and more memory, 8GB internal memory, expandable with microSD card up to 32GB, 512MB RAM and a decent 5.0 MP camera . The Built in Wi-Fi supports 802.11n, which enables three times faster connectivity. (802.11b/g – 54 Mbps; 802.11n – 150 Mbps). Torch 9800 takes the best advantage of OS 6 multi-touch feature, which is missing in Bold 9780. It also takes much shorter time to power on.
Outside this technicality, the first impression of the phone is also very pleasing with its wet look and nice finish.
Bold 9780
Bold 9780 is a candy bar design with 2.4″ TFT LCD screen. Not much deviation from BlackBerry’s classic design. But the screen has a higher PPI compared to Torch 9800; 247 vs. 187, which gives crisper display of text and graphics. The other features are: 512MB RAM + 2GB media card, built-in Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, the same 5.0MP camera.
