Education vs Qualification
Education makes all the difference in the quality of life of an individual they say, and this is something that needs no certification. We all know that, without education, man is no more than a beast, or at best, someone steeped in ignorance and backwardness. Education is the tool that takes a man from darkness to light, from ignorance to knowledge, and from poverty and backwardness to a life that is desirable and worth living. However, in the modern world, there is another concept of qualification that confuses many as mere education seems to be insufficient these days. There are many differences between education and qualification despite similarities that will be highlighted in this article.
Education
For all practical purposes, education is the formal system of schooling in place in a country where the students get knowledge in different subjects taught to them by qualified teachers according to a set curriculum. The level of difficulty in each subject gets increased with each passing year with the understanding of students getting assessed at the end of the year through a written examination.
This system of education imparts knowledge in all subjects ranging from math and science to literature, history, geography etc to students to make them aware of the basic concepts. It is when students gain sufficient knowledge in various subjects by the time they clear their 10+2 exam that they are required to undergo for undergraduate level degree course and later master’s and doctoral level degrees.
Education can be informal also, when people learn from their experiences and through their parents, peers, and others in a verbal or practical manner. In this system, there are no degrees or curriculum but the knowledge gained can be immense and helpful in life.
Qualification
What is your qualification is a common question people ask others. This is a question that has to be answered in terms of degrees, diplomas, and other certifications that they may have earned after completing their basic education. It becomes clear the that qualification refers to specialization or expertise earned in different fields of studies such as MBBS, MD, MBA, MS, PhD, MA etc.
Qualification is a certification that qualifies a person to apply for a job in a particular field or industry. A person’s qualification is enough to covey his competency or level of expertise in a particular subject. Qualifications are necessary in most industries these days though there are still jobs where experience and labor dominate qualifications such as plumbing, electrician, gas welder, air conditioning, painter, carpentry etc.
What is the difference between Education and Qualification?
• Qualification is a subset of education as it refers to certifications, degrees, diplomas etc. that people earn during the course of higher education
• Education takes one from ignorance to knowledge while qualification imparts competency in a particular field or industry
• To say that I am educated only tells that you are literate. Whether or not you are competent is reflected by your qualifications
• Better employment opportunities open up with more and latest qualifications
• You are allowed to practice a profession when you pass the relevant exams and become qualified
• Today, qualifications have become more important than education
