LG Optimus Black vs iPhone 4
It is a fact that whenever people think of smartphones, the first phone they think of is Apple’s iPhone. But it is also a fact that iPhones have been facing stiff competition from latest devices by other electronic giants. LG has introduced its latest Optimus Black that has the potential to dethrone iPhone 4 from the perch, or is it just another contender? Let us make a fair assessment based upon features and functions of both these stunning gadgets.
LG Optimus Black
LG has decided to take Apple head on with its latest offering in the high end market called LG Optimus Black. LG has proclaimed Black to be the lightest and thinnest smartphone in the world and has boasted about its super display. No doubt display plays an important role in the selection of smartphone for many. LG has done away with AMOLED and LCD displays and has come up with its own NOVA display that is amazingly bright and produces vivid colors even under broad sunlight. Browsing the net in daylight becomes easy with this display that is as good as retina display of iPhone 4.
Optimus boasts of a huge 4” screen that is touch sensitive and despite being super bright consumes 50% less power. Running on Android 2.2 Froyo, the phone has a fast 1 GHz processor with 512 MB RAM, though it does not belong to the dual core family like Optimus 2X (T-Mobile G2X). It has internal memory of 2 GB that can be expanded up to 32 GB using micro SD cards. The phone has dimensions of 122X64X9.2mm making it one of thinnest smartphone in the market. It weighs just 109g making it much lighter than iPhone 4.
The phone is equipped with all standard features such as accelerometer; proximity sensor and gyro meter and has touch sensitive controls. It comes equipped with LG’s own Optimus UI coupled with Gesture UI that provides a pleasing experience while browsing the net and also when playing games that are preloaded in the phone. The phone has full support for Adobe Flash 10.1 opening up image rich sites in a jiffy. For connectivity, the phone is Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, DLNA, Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP+EDR, GPRS, and EDGE. With Wi-Fi direct capability, it provides high speeds of 7.2Mbps for HSPDA. It supports micro USB v2.0.
For those fond of clicking around, the phone has double cameras. The rear one is 5 MP that is auto focus and LED flash and is capable of capturing HD videos at 720p @30fps. It also boasts of a 2Mp front camera that allows for video calling and chatting. The smartphone has a stereo FM with RDS. There are different emailing facilities and the phone is integrated with YouTube and Gtalk.

Apple iPhone4
iPhone4 is Apple’s baby, selling millions of unit worldwide. It has been the smartphone to beat ever since it was launched in 2010. It is the 4th generation iPhone that has all the features of earlier ones while boasting newer features such as Retina display that is being considered the best among all smartphones. It also has a fast Apple A4 1GHz processor that is faster than its predecessor. Despite all these new features, iPhone4 is a miser when it comes to power consumption and it has a very impressive battery life.
This status symbol of millions has a 3.5” backlit retina display that gives a resolution of 960X640 pixels, easily the best across all smartphones. It has 512 MB RAM and is available in two models with 16 GB and 32 GB internal memory that unfortunately cannot be expanded as it does not support micro SD cards. It is a dual camera device with a 5 MP rear camera that has 5X digital zoom and a VGA 0.3 MP front camera for making video calls. Rear camera is capable of recording HD videos in 720p and the camera quality is quite impressive. The phone runs on legendary iOS 4.2.1 and has Safari web browser. The OS can be upgraded over the air to the newest version; iOS 4.3.3.
The dimensions of the phone are 115.2X58.6X9.3mm and weighs 137g. For connectivity, it is Wi-Fi802.11b/g/n with A-GPS, Bluetooth v2.1+EDR, EDGE and HSPDA(7.2Mbps). One can download hundreds of thousands of apps from Apple’s app store.
