Notice vs Agenda
Notice and agenda are two words that are frequently used in board meetings of companies. These words are commonly misunderstood by people and they even use them interchangeably which is wrong. Here is an explanation of these two words which will put to rest any confusion between notice and agenda.
Notice is a type of announcement that is used to inform all the members who are eligible to attend a meeting. Notice carries all the information about the date and time, as well as the venue of the meeting. In the case of a board meeting, notice is required to be sent at least 7 days prior to the date of meeting to let the members prepare for the meeting.
In schools and colleges, notice about a function or changes in school timings or any other important communication is normally stuck on the notice board so that students can easily come to know about it.
The practice of issuing notice to officers of a department to ask for explanations for a lapse or embezzlement is a common practice all over the world.
An agenda is normally a list of topics that are to be discussed in a meeting. These topics are always in an order of preference which specifies which topic is to be discussed in which order. Agenda is always set before a meeting takes place so that everything goes in accordance and there is no commotion during the meeting.
Even political parties set their agenda before election process is set rolling. This is in terms of policies and programs declared by these parties to let the electorate know what will be in the offing for them if they vote for a particular party.
Whenever there is a summit between two nations or even the UN, agenda is set beforehand to let the summit proceed smoothly without any hiccup.
While notice is a tool used to make an announcement about an event or a meeting, agenda is the list of topics to be discussed in a meeting
Even for a board meeting where notice is sent to the members divulging the date time and venue, agenda is set beforehand so that the proposed meeting goes on in a smooth manner.
