Sauce vs Ketchup
Sauce and ketchup are something put on or used to help enhance the food, they are also called condiments. They may be added during the preparation, or after it has been prepared or cooked. Other types of condiments include pepper, salt, relish, mayonnaise, vinegar and many more.
Sauce
Sauce is a French term which is taken from the Latin word salsus (salted). This may be a semi-solid food or liquid that is served or used in preparing certain dishes. Generally, sauces are not consumed on their own. They add moisture and visual appeal to the dish. Most sauces need liquids in their ingredients. However, there are a few that contain lots of solids than liquid ingredients.
Ketchup
In American English, it is primarily called Ketchup but for Commonwealth English it is known as tomato sauce. This is a sweet & sour kind of condiment basically made from vinegar, sugar or tomatoes and a mixture of veggie seasoning and spices like cloves, cinnamon, garlic, onions and celery. This is frequently used with hamburgers, fries, sandwiches, fried or grilled meat.
Difference between Sauce and Ketchup
Sauce is a universal word. It can be spaghetti sauce, steak sauce or BBQ sauce, while ketchup is a specific type of sauce. Ketchup can be a sauce but not all sauces are ketchup. Even if ketchup is a sauce this can also be used as a base for another kind of sauce. In terms of making it, sauces can be both. It can be ready made like soy sauce or can be freshly prepared through cooking. As for ketchups, they are usually bought in bottles and are ready-made. Sauce can be purely liquid and may contain some solid ingredients as opposed to ketchup that are much thicker and doesn’t contain any solid elements.
Sauce and ketchup are very important in cooking and after preparation. They add flavor and spice to the dish, which makes it more appetizing.
