Samsung Galaxy S2 (or Galaxy S II) is only next to iPhone 4 in creating a hype in the mobile market since its unveiling in February 2011. If there is any device that was much talked about in the media it is Galaxy S 2. Though Motorola Atrix was silently released to global market, it also created excitement when its US version Atrix 4G was introduced in January 2011. It was the first dual core phone for AT&T. The global version also carries the same specs as Atrix 4G sans the 4G in the name. Though both are dual core Android phones, they are different in many aspects. Galaxy S2 is a dual core phone with 1.2 GHz CPU and quad core GPU, 4.3 inches WVGA (800×480 pixels) super AMOLED plus display, 8MP camera with dual flash at the rear and 2MP at the front, HD video recording at 1080p and runs Anndroid 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) with the new TouchWiz 4.0. Motorola Atrix sports a 4″ QHD (960×540 pixels) PenTile display with , 1GHz dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 5MP camera at the rear, 1.3 MP front facing camera, video recording in 720p and runs Android 2.2 (Froyo) with Motoblur for UI.

Galaxy S2 is the Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone announced at the World Mobile Congress in February 2011. It’s the world’s thinnest phone today measuring only 8.49mm. Galaxy S2 (Galaxy S II) has many advanced features, it’s the next generation smartphone packed with 4.3″ WVGA Super AMOLED plus touch screen, 1 GHz Dual Core Exynos 4210 chipset that has 1 GHz dual core Cortex A9 CPU and ARM Mali-400 MP GPU, 8 megapixels camera with LED flash, touch focus and 1080p HD video recording, 2 megapixels front facing camera for video calling, 1GB RAM, 16GB memory expandable up to 32 GB with microSD card, Bluetooth 3.0 support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, HDMI out with mirroring, DLNA, mobile hotspot and runs Android’s latest OS Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) with the new TouchWiz 4.0. The Exynos 4210 chipset delivers high performance and excellent graphic reproduction with low power consumption. It offers 5x better graphic performance than the previous Galaxy S phone.

The super AMOLED plus display is highly responsive and has a better viewing angle than its predecessor. With TouchWiz 4.0 Samsung introduces a new personalized UX on Galaxy S2 which has a magazine style layout that selects the contents used mostly by the user and displays them on the homescreen. The live contents can be personalized. The web browsing is also improved to optimize Android 2.3 fully and users get a seamless browsing experience with Adobe Flash Player.

The additonal applications include Kies 2.0, Kies Air, AllShare, Voice Recognition & Voice Translation, NFC (Near Field Communication) and the native Social, Music and Games hub from Samsung. Game hub offers 12 social network games and 13 premium games including Gameloft’s Let Golf 2 and Real Football 2011.

Samsung in addtion to providing entertainment has more to offer the businesses. The entreprise solutions include Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, On Device Encryption, Cisco’s AnyConnect VPN, MDM (Mobile Device Management) and Cisco WebEx.

The powerful Android smartphone from Motorola Atrix is packed with excellent features. The 4″ QHD (960x 540 pixels) PenTile capacitive touch screen display with 24-bit color depth produces a real sharp and bright pictures on the screen. Powered by Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset (built with 1 GHz dual core ARM Cortex A9 CPU and GeForce GT GPU) with 1 GB RAM and a very responsive display mulitasking is very smooth in Atrix and it gives a better browsing and gaming experience that you never experienced before. Motorola Atrix runs Android 2.2 with Motoblur for UI and the Android WebKit browser supports full Adobe flash player to allow all the graphics, text and animations on the web.

The unique feature of Atrix 4G is the webtop techology and the fingerprint scanner for device security. Motorola introduced the Webtop technology with Atrix to enjoy the mobile computing experience on a large screen. All you need to enjoy the power of mobile computing is the laptop dock and the software (which you have to purchase separately). The 11.5 inch laptop dock with full physical keyboard is built in with Mozila firefox browser and adobe flash player that allows a fast, seemless browsing in a large screen. It will also mirror your phone content on the large screen.

The fingerprint scanner combined with the power button at the top center back of the gadget gives an added security, you can enable the feature by going in to the set up and input your finger print with pin number.

The other features include 5 megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and capapbility of HD video recording at 720p@30fps, front VGA camera (640×480 pixels) for video calling, internal memory of 16GB that can be expanded to 32GB using a memory card, HDMI port, microUSB port (HDMI cable and USB cable are included to the package).

Design – Galaxy S II is larger than Atrix but very much thinner and both have plastic bodies with textures rear cover. Atrix has tapered edges with corned curved. Galaxy S II also has slight curve on the edges and the sides too slightly curved.

Display Size – Galaxy S II display (4.3″) is larger than that of Atrix (4″)

Display Type – Atrix display has denser pixels and the text are crisper than Galaxy S II but the colour is more vivid and extremely bright in Galaxy with higher contrast ratio and has better viewing angle too.

Processor – Galaxy S II has 1.2GHz Exynox chipset while Atrix has 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset. Both have dual core CPUs, but the CPU clock speed is faster in Galaxy. However Nvidia offers a better graphic performance.

OS – Galaxy S2 uses the latest Android version (2.3.3 Gingerbread) while its the previous version (Android 2.2 Froyo) in Atrix

UI – Both use their own interface skins without loosing much of the Android feel. Galaxy S II uses the very new TouchWiz 4.0 which is more catchy and has more advanced features than Motoblur in Atrix.

Camera – Galaxy S2 (8MP, 1080p video recording) has a more powerful camera than Atrix (5MP, 720p video recording)

Connectivity – Galaxy S2 has Bluetooth v3.0 while it is v2.1 in Atrix. Also Galaxy S2 has HSPA+21Mbps while it’s HSPA+14.4Mbps in Atrix.

Media – Galaxy S II has better mulitmedia features than Atrix. Galaxy supports DivX and Xvid in addition to other standard file formats.

Battery – Atrix has a stronger battery (1930 mAh) than Galaxy S II (1630 mAh)
