Hunter vs Jumper Horse

Differentiating a hunter horse and jumper horse is no easy feat. To distinguish one from the other, one has to be very familiar with regard to the stance and anatomy of the horse and the different stages of the game.

Hunter Horse

Hunter horse is basically all about the horse looking good with an upright stance and even their physical structure. Hunters are basically made useful not just in the field but they must also be able to cover a lot of ground with the least effort. It should also reflect that the rider and the hunter have harmonious relationship and that they can execute a free-flowing movement. They must be able to perform quality movements and consistent gait all throughout the show.

Jumper Horse

Jumper horse are evaluated more closely to the relevance of their hindquarters to their body, this is one gauge to test if the horse is capable of doing a good jump during the show. They often display power and energy since that will come in handy during the performance. They are more natural in appearance when it comes to the game in the field.

Difference between Hunter Horse and Jumper Horse

Hunter horse and jumper horse differ in the disciplines of the game. In the field of hunters, the competition goes on all day. It’s all about achieving the perfect stride, gait and movement of both the rider and the horse. However, the judgment may be political in nature and can be quite subjective, since judges have different classification and perception as to what they are looking for. Jumpers on the other hand, involve a more complicated terrain with lots of elements that are included in the game. Scoring is pretty fixed, since it would be based on speed, distance and accuracy.

Though some horses can both handle being a jumper and a hunter at the same time, such cases are not prevalent. Since the discipline and training would greatly vary as well. It is important to note that each horse must be assessed properly in order to defer them to the competition in which they are properly suited for.
