Mythology vs Science
Mythology and Science are two terms that differ in their meanings and concepts. Mythology deals with the study of myths. The subject of comparative mythology deals with a comparative study of varied myths of different cultures.
On the other hand Science refers to the systematic analysis of knowledge through experiments and explanations. This is the primary difference between the two terms. Science deals with regular behavior of physical, inorganic and organic elements in nature. In other words, it deals with the nature and characteristics of the elements in nature.
On the other hand, mythology deals with characters that might have existed prior to the existence of man. Some of the characters of the myths are Gods, supernatural beings and sometimes humans too. It is believed that mythology deals with true stories unlike fables.
Mythology deals with myth that have taken place before the world took its present form. In short it deals with the primordial happenings. On the other hand, science is related to concrete truths and proofs. It is based on proofs and truths behind underlying principles. This is also an important difference between the two terms.
Mythology can be argued as something that had never happened. On the other hand, science cannot be argued as something that is baseless. This is due to the fact that every scientific truth is based on experience. Mythology is not based on experience. It is based on narration and explanation. Concrete proof cannot be shown for the existence of mythological characters.
Scientific knowledge is a reliable knowledge, whereas mythological knowledge cannot be called as a reliable knowledge. Science can be simply called as an attempt to discover patterns in nature. On the other hand, mythology gets man closer to religion and culture. These are the differences between the two terms, namely, science and mythology.
