iPad 2 vs Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet
There is no doubt about the fact that iPad, the tablet PC from Apple ruled the roost in the tablet segment for long, and when it seemed that others were catching up, Apple came up with ipad2, an ultimate tablet that was faster and better than its predecessor in every respect. It is in this context that one has to tread with caution when trying to compare a new tablet, the Thinkpad from Lenovo with the undisputed king of tablets.
The 2nd generation iPad improves upon both looks and performance than its predecessor, iPad. iPad2 is even thinner than its iconic cousin iPhone4 being just 8.8 mm in thickness, and it weighs an incredible 613 g. The most notable feature of iPad 2 is its super fast 1 GHz dual core processor that is twice as fast as the one we had in iPad and in graphic processing, it is almost10 times faster. Despite such drastic improvements, iPad 2 is a miser when it comes to power consumption and lasts almost as long on its battery as iPad.
iPad 2 measures 241.2×185.7×8.8 mm and weighs 613 g. It boasts of the same 9.7 inch LCD screen that iPad had and produces a resolution of 1024×768 pixels. The touch screen is highly capacitive and allows multi touch input method. It runs on iOS 4.3 and provides 512 MB RAM. It is a dual camera device with a rear 5 MP camera that can record HD videos in 720p at 30 fps. It also has a front VGA camera to allow for video calling. The tablet is 33% thinner and 20% lighter than iPad and it is also faster and better with dual cameras. To cap it all, it is still available for $499, which is music for ears for iPad lovers. It is Wi-Fi802.a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v2.1 with EDR, and HDMI capable.
No one expected Lenovo, undisputed workhorse in the field of laptops and PC’s to come up with a gem of a gadget, and that too in the tablet segment. But though Lenovo has been a little late, it is bang on target with its latest innovation called Thinkpad, a 10.1 inch tablet that has the features to take on the best in the business, including iPad2.
Thinkpad arrives riding on Honeycomb, Android’s latest OS developed especially for tablets, and has a bigger screen than iPad2. Surprisingly, it also produces a resolution that is higher than that of iPad2 (1280×800 pixels). However, it is much bulkier (13 mm) and heavier (725 g) than iPad2, which is somewhat disappointing for those who expected more from this late entrant in the tablet segment. Thinkpad runs on 1 GHz dual core NVIDIA Tegra processor and packs in 1 GB of RAM. Thinkpad comes with a stylus pen for corporate customers and also comes with 2 GB of free cloud storage.
